daily demos
Daily Demos is a daily practice of rapid writing and recording. The practice began in mid-November 2022 using readily available equipment, a timer, and iPhone Voice Memos. Initially, writing and recording a demo took 30 minutes to an hour. Over time, the toolset and process evolved. Demos can now be written and recorded in under 15 minutes. The initial goal was to make creating music unimpeded, leaving no excuse for not practicing daily.

The practice has evolved into an act of automatic writing. The tools and processes in place are used to extract ideas with as little intervention from the active mind as possible. From this, meaningful insights into my lived experience are gained; similar to how emotional processing is allowed through journaling. Through this automatic writing process, many ideas have emerged which seem to come directly from the Source.

Today, the catalog of recorded demo material for bogatir exceeds 850 recordings. In 2023, keeping production notes became part of the practice. In 2024, detailed database logging and tagging were added. Some of the strongest demos have evolved into final songs on recent bogatir releases.

cassette demos
The established process for tracking daily demos adapted naturally to recording on blank cassette tapes using a Tascam Porta03 4-Track Cassette Recorder. The hands-on tools require more time than the DAW-oriented digital process, usually more than 15 minutes per song. Cataloging is also intentionally manual, using Field Notes Log Books to document production notes, mood and feel tags, and other important details upon review.

To date, three cassette tapes have been filled with demo recordings, totaling at least 240 minutes of recorded material.
